We are in the last week of the month, and so is the time for DIY of the month. We will be making an under eye cream this month to get rid of those eye bags and dark circles.
There are two groups of friends I often talk to these days. One, who are burning the midnight oil for office work as work from home has led to no fixed working hours and others who are binge-watching all the T.V. series till 4 AM. Both waking up to those dark rings under the eyes.
There are lots of under eye creams and facials that claim to reduce dark circles and bags, but I don’t want my friends to pay for something that could be attained with things they already have at home. So I decided to share this DIY to make under eye cream for all of them here. But before we go to the steps, let us understand the causes of dark circles and eye bags under the eye.
The under-eye skin is one of the thinnest and most delicate areas of skin in the human body. The finely textured dermis/epidermis has no oil glands and is ultra-susceptible to dark circles, rings or shadows. Hence it is important to use an under eye cream.
Causes of dark circles
Lack of sleep: The body repairs the skin when you are in a state of deep sleep. Blood circulation focuses on the tissues and cells of your skin to give your face a more rejuvenated appearance during your sleep. If you do not have proper rest, the sluggish circulation and the buildup of deoxygenated blood can make eye circles more noticeable.
Too much salt or caffeine: High levels of sodium and caffeine content in some foods cause your body to retain water, aggravating the skin under the eyes and making them appear darker.
Genetics: Sometimes, dark circles can just be hereditary (and is actually one of the most common causes of them).
Sun exposure: Sun damage shows up quickly in the eye area in the form of dilating and increased blood flow. Too much sun exposure, which prompts your body to produce more melanin, the pigment that gives skin its colour. As a result, you can see a dark glow or colour through the transparency of the skin
Now that we have understood the causes let us quickly understand what are the ingredients we will be using today to make the best under eye cream and how do they help us in removing the dark circles and wrinkles around the eyes.
Coffee: It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that help in reducing the effect of U.V. rays and redness and also tightens your skin. Caffeine helps to improve blood circulation by narrowing the blood vessels. The caffeine can absorb accumulated water and is vital in reducing puffiness and swelling found around the eyes.
Almond oil: It moisturizes the under eye area and keeps it soft and smooth. It reduces the wrinkles and patchiness by preventing the under eye area from drying
Aloe vera: It has Vitamin E content and anti-pigmentation properties which helps in removing the stubborn dark patches. It helps in improving the lost elasticity of the skin. It has anti-bacterial properties also.
- Coffee: 2 tablespoons of coffee. I used one INR 2 sachet of Nescafe.
- Almond oil: 3-4 drops of any almond oil. You can get it from here if you do not have it at home.
- Aloe vera: Half tablespoon. You can use the ready-made gel or fresh from the leaves. I used the Aloe vera gel from Patanjali
- Take an empty bowl and add the coffee powder to it
- Add aloe vera gel and almond oil to this powder
- Mix it well so that it has a paste-like consistency.
- Pour it into a small container
How to use
Apply a tiny amount of cream under your eyes and massage it with your ring finger for about 2-3 minutes. Wipe off the extra. You can sleep with it and wash it off in the morning. Try doing this regularly for a month and notice the difference.
P.S: Always remember home remedies takes time to work.
Happy DIYing 🙂
