Moisturizer? Tinted? What exactly are we talking about?
What is a tinted moisturizer?
If you are someone who wants more in less and do not want to apply too many make-up products, you have come to the right place. A tinted moisturizer is a moisturizing liquid-cream natural makeup product, you can say. It is a facial moisturizer that’s slightly tinted with makeup pigments like a foundation or a BB cream. It gives the right hydration with the right coverage on your face and leaves a glowing finish.
Tinted moisturizers are hydrating enough that can be used on their own or as part of a simple makeup routine and they offer enough tint to correct any color imbalance in the skin. Basically, you get the benefits of both makeup and moisturizer in just one product.
Foundation vs BB Creams vs Tinted moisturizers
Foundations are something that comes in light to high coverage and are used to cover the flaws, hyperpigmentation, and, sometimes, to change the natural skin tone. They are little thicker in consistency compared to BB Creams and tinted moisturizers.
A BB cream, also known as a beauty balm or a blemish balm, is a all-in-one essential make up product which can help in priming the skin, providing coverage, and other skin care benefits like hydration, sun protection, and shine control. ou can think of a BB cream as falling in-between tinted moisturizer and foundation in terms of coverage
Tinted moisturizers are similar, yet distinctive. The primary role of a tinted moisturizer is to provide hydration to the skin with minimal coverage. The moisturizers have lighter formulas than BB creams. It gives a slightly polished look or a little tint to the skin compared to a foundation
When to prefer what?
It really depends on the type of makeup look you want. If the main aim is to cover up dark spots, age spots, or hyperpigmentation, the foundation will be the right choice to provide the level of coverage you’re looking for.
On the other hand, if you want to provide your skin with instant hydration while adding a touch of pigment for dewy and glowing skin, tinted moisturizer is the right choice. Also for those with skin that doesn’t require weighty formulas, tinted moisturizer is a great alternative to thick foundation that can mask your natural beauty.
Go for a BB cream if you are looking for something in between terms of coverage.
DIY – How to make your own Tinted moisturizer?
Here begins the fun part. While there are a dozen tinted moisturizers available in the market but why waste money when we can make it at home with the available products.
- Foundation: Your choice and shade. I use the Maybelline Fit me one
- Moisturizer: I love Cetaphil and its products. So this is my all-time favorite moisturizer
- Highlighter(optional): I am using this one from Anastasia Beverly Hills right now. You can take whatever you have
- A glass bowl
- Spoon to mix
Steps to make your Tinted Moisturizer
It is advised to first try in smaller quantity to get the right shade as per your skin.
To start with place a few drops of moisturizer in your hand, enough to cover your face, and then add an equal amount of your foundation. Blend the two products together and apply it on your face using hand or a makeup sponge. If you find this as the right shade for your skin tone, make it in larger quantity else mix two or more foundations to get the right shade. It’s a great way to use up those bottles of foundation you’ve bought in the past that are just a little too opaque, or not quite the right color.
Depending on how you prefer your product, you can create the best formula to suit your skin’s needs. Add just a drop of highlighter to get a little shimmer (optional)
- If your foundation does not have SPF to protect you from sun damage, you can add a few drops of your sunscreen too in this.
- Use more foundation in the mix if you prefer slightly more coverage or vice versa
How to apply?
Take a small amount of it and apply it onto the face down to your neck just like any other lotion or cream. This will give you a dewy look and if you want a little matte look, you can use a sheer powder. Also, this product is suitable for dry to combination skinned beauties since they impart oiliness to the skin.
